DESCRIPTION:April 1 – June 30\, 2023\nJoin REEFs 2023 Florida Keys Lionfish Sweeps!\nSteady removal of Lionfish from our local reefs can help protect native fish species & ensure a balanced ecosystem\nParticipants can remove Invasive Lionfish from April to June 2023 for entry into cash raffles & final cash prizes and donate the fish to REEF’s Education & Outreach Programs \nTo Participate Drop off lionfish between April 1 to June 30\, 2023 at:\nREEF Campus\, Key Largo\, FL 9AM-5PM Monday-Friday each week \nMote Marine Laboratory\, Summerland Key\, FL 9AM-5PM on Mondays each week \nLionfish Sweeps Preregistration \nOnline preregistration is not required\, participants can register in person during first drop anytime between April 1-June 30 \nFinal Results will be announced & raffles will be drawn at Sharkey’s Sharkbite Grille Rockin’ the Dock –  July 2023 \n\nAt least $2000 in Cash Prizes\nCash prizes will be given out to 1st place\, 2nd place & 3rd place\nTwo cash raffle prize pools with multiple drawings\nPARTICIPANT RAFFLE – Each participant receives a raffle tix upon entry & then a raffle tix each week they drop off fish (regardless of fish #) \nLIONFISH RAFFLE – Each participant receives a raffle tix for their first lionfish & then an additional raffle tix for every 20 lionfish they drop off \nA selection of custom made Zookeepers and Zookeeper spears will also be included as prizes\nEach participant receives a REEF Lionfish Neck Gaiter with entry \nEach participant receives a 2023 REEF Lionfish Derby Shirt after dropping off 10 lionfish\n\nFlorida Keys Lionfish Sweeps Rules\n\nParticipants can sign up and complete waivers during their first drop off of lionfish between April 1 – June 30 2023\nEntry is free (all lionfish must be donated)\nThis is an individual competition\, Lionfish must be harvested by the person credited for the harvest\nLionfish can be captured from anywhere (legal) but must be dropped off at REEF Campus or Mote\nLionfish must be caught between April-June 30\nNo previously caught or frozen lionfish will be allowed\nPlease turn in all lionfish fresh on ice for consumption\nOnly legal means of capture in areas allowing use of those gear types will be allowed. All existing federal\, state\, and local laws must be followed\nAll lionfish must be in whole condition\nLionfish will be used for sampling\, research\, or culinary tasting events\nLionfish can be used for additional events including FWC’s Lionfish Challenge\nWeekend drop times and alternate times may be available upon request email lionfish@REEF.org\nLionfish are venomous & should be handled with care with protective gloves & containment devices\nIt is recommended that divers carry first aid kits\, hot water and/or heat packs when collecting lionfish\nAll participants operate under the honor system for this conservation effort and are responsible for compliance with the rules.\n\nAny violation of these rules will result in disqualification and forfeiture of prizes and cash awards\, and at the sole discretion of the tournament officials may lead to prohibited from entry in any future tournaments.

DESCRIPTION:Register for the Looe Key Lionfish Collecting & Handling Workshop!\nFriday\, April 28 – Looe Key Reef Resort\, 27340 Overseas Hwy.\, Ramrod Key\, FL 33042 \nRegister here!Workshop Waiver \nREEF Lionfish Collecting & Handling Workshops include a classroom portion that covers invasion history\, lionfish biology\, ecological impacts\, current research\, and collecting and handling techniques. Once wrapping up on land\, we will head out to the water and put our skills to work during a two-tank dive charter. The workshop and dives are free\, and REEF will provide lionfish collecting gear\, but you will need to bring your own SCUBA gear or organize a rental through the dive shop. Please contact the shop directly prior to the workshop if you need rental gear. *Due to the advanced nature of the lionfish collection dives an advanced dive certification and 30 dives minimum are required for dive participants. \nDates & Times\nFriday\, April 28 \n\nClassroom background: 9:15 am (check-in at 9 am)\nTwo-tank removal dives: 12:30 pm check-in\n\nMeeting Location\nThe classroom background will be held at the Marathon Public Library – 3490 Overseas Hwy\, Marathon\, FL. \nThe two-tank removal dives will be held at Looe Key Reef Resort – 27340 Overseas Hwy\, Ramrod Key\, FL. \nAdditional Details\nREEF will provide lionfish collecting and handling gear to all registered participants. You will need to provide your own scuba diving equipment. If you need to rent equipment\, you will need to set that up with Looe Key Reef Resort before getting on the afternoon boat. \nYou must place your $35 deposit to secure your dive spot on the removal charter. This deposit can be refunded if requested via email within 7 days upon completion of the workshop. \nIf you have to cancel your registration you must do so within 48 hours of the workshop dives to refund your $35 deposit. We cannot provide refunds within 48 hours of the workshop or for no-shows. \nDue to the advanced nature of the lionfish collection dives an advanced dive certification and 30 dives minimum are required for dive participants.
