In 2024\, ECO had 147 participants and removed 11\,844 lionfish despite rough weather – 7\,411 in 2 days! We are excited to announce this year’s Dive in Day at the Capitol will take place on April 30th\, 2025. Members are encouraged to arrive on April 29th to meet with Tom Ingram to discuss current issues that are important to the scuba diving industry. \nDive in Day provides a platform to engage Florida’s 160 legislators\, the Governor and their staff members\, and hundreds of visitors to the Capitol.  DEMA has reserved the courtyard and first floor of the Capitol building to give DEMA Members and Florida-based diving businesses an opportunity to showcase Florida’s recreational diving operators. It’s a chance to highlight the importance of scuba diving to Florida’s economy\, tourism\, and marine ecosystems while advocating for policies that sustain our industry. \nOpportunities to Participate \n\nTable-top Display at the Capitol Rotunda: We encourage members to set up interactive displays that showcase their dive shops\, marine life education\, or scuba diving experiences. If you are interested in exhibiting\, we suggest you bring simple table-top displays\, brochures\, videos\, product information\, handouts or other engaging materials to spark interest and conversation with lawmakers and the public.\nExhibiting companies should plan to set up starting at 4:00 PM on April 29th so that your exhibit will be up and running on the morning of April 30th.* Spaces are available on a first come-first served basis\, and are large enough to accommodate an 8ft. table. This will be hosted in-person at the Florida Keys Brewing Company. Teams may join in-person or virtually. Safe collecting and handling techniques and derby rules will be reviewed. The Captain’s meeting will be offered in-person and virtually.\n\n\nTeams wishing to fish in the areas that fall under the FKNMS\, FWC\, and DEP permit must schedule a time to come to the REEF Campus to pick up packet materials\, permits\, and flags during the week of August 12 or pick up at the Captain’s Meeting.\nAll lionfish should be well packed on ice and teams must provide enough ice for lionfish\, particularly those that will be held overnight.\nTeams will be able to take at least 80% of their catch after it is measured (REEF will keep some lionfish to use towards education and outreach activities).\n\nAwards \n\nPrizes will be awarded for MOST lionfish\, SMALLEST and LARGEST lionfish and a Golden Fish raffle award for all participating teams.\nDuring registration\, teams must choose to compete in one of two divisions for the MOST Lionfish Prize.\n\nApex Predators Division (More Competitive Division; Greater Prize Money)\nReef Defenders Division (More Casual Division; Lower Prize Money)\n\n\nAll teams will compete together for LARGEST and SMALLEST lionfish categories.\nAll teams will be entered to win the $500 Golden Fish award as long as they check in with there data sheets even if they don’t catch fish\nAll participants will be entered to win individual raffle prizes that will be drawn at Captains Meeting on Thursday and Awards on Sunday.\nAwards will be presented in person and virtually (in-person attendance at awards is not mandatory)\n\nPrizes will not be mailed out. DESCRIPTION:How much are tickets to the JuLionfish Festival and what does it include?\nTickets are $65 and members are $60. Tickets to the JuLionfish Festival include entrance to the Aquarium\, small bites and lionfish tastings\, beer and wine bar\, live entertainment\, a silent auction and more! \nWhere can I buy tickets to the JuLionfish Festival?\nTickets can be purchased here. \nI am a diver. Can I still participate in the JuLionfish Derby?\nYes! Derby registration is still open and you can register for the Derby here; divers can register for the Derby + Festival\, or just the Derby. Registration includes an official event T-shirt\, a participant’s meeting\, commemorative challenge coin and eligibility for prizes. \nWhat time do doors open and when does the event end?\nDoors open at 7 p.m. No entry will be allowed after 9:15 p.m. No re-entry to the event is allowed. Tasting stations and bars will close at 9:45 p.m.\, and the event concludes at 10 p.m. \nWill I be able to buy tickets at the gate?\nWith a limited number of tickets available\, we anticipate selling out prior to the event. We encourage all who wish to attend to buy tickets prior to the event. If there are tickets available on the date of the event\, you will be able to buy them at the gate. Please note\, to avoid ticket scams\, only purchase tickets directly from the official website at scaquarium.org/JuLionfish \nWhat should I wear?\nMost attendees of the JuLionfish Festival come dressed in summer casual attire. \nWhat should I bring?\nPlease have your photo I.D. ready. The JuLionfish Festival is a 21+ event. You may also bring a refillable water bottle\, but no other outside food or beverage is permitted. \nWill this event take place if it rains?\nYes\, all events are held rain or shine. \nCan I receive a refund for my ticket if I can no longer attend?\nAll tickets are non-refundable. \nWhere should I park?\nThere is a city-operated parking garage located at 24 Calhoun Street\, as well as metered parking in the areas surrounding the Aquarium. If you drive to and from the event\, please do so responsibly.
